63. Her final bad decision

63. Her final bad decision

I’ve heard it said that one man’s religion is but another man’s cult, and I begin to wonder just what shared ideal has led so many to flock to the Bloodthorn’s banners.  This cultist is not so much older than the girl who lies dead back at Deleyn’s Mill, and she too will leave behind a grieving mother somewhere on Tamriel, yet I will not lament on this one’s death.

Perhaps her cause began as worthy endeavour, only to later fall to corruption; her paranoia and delusions fed by the cult’s leadership to the point where she inflicts such pains on others as proof of her piety.  But whilst one might consider her to be misled rather than inherently evil, surely the concept of evil is not a foreign one to her.

No doubt a crescendo of bad decisions has led her to this moment of reckoning, a moment in which she made her final bad decision… to raise her sword against a man without a soul.

62. Outlandish beliefs

I find more of the Wyrd Sisters on the northern roads, who have offered shelter to the refugees of Deleyn’s Mill but appear to have lost much themselves.  The strange vines grow larger and more numerous here, like weeds they choke and smother life all about, whilst cultists and their foul corruptions prowl the surrounding countryside.

Witches, rituals, abominations of nature, and elemental guardians… if I were back in Cyrodiil I might have branded such stories as nowt but the brew of superstitions and outlandish beliefs of the bumpkins that populate such rural provinces.

But then, I never truly believed in Oblivion… until the anchors began to fall.

61. Despair in my shadow

61. Despair in my shadow

Warm heart stops and the life of one beloved, a daughter to a mother, thus ends.  Crying out the mother beseeches with her daughter, who can no longer see or hear the world about, not to leave her.  I am no Divine that might grant resurrection, it is only vengeance I can offer.  To those risen nightmares from nowhere dreams I promise this… despair in my shadow, for this night your death is mine.

60. The Wyrd sisters

“We are the Witches of the Wyrd.  We serve the Wyrd tree and the forest is our home”.

According to the witches, strange vines have begun appearing throughout Glenumbra, some of which I have already encountered in Daggerfall.  These vines are allegedly causing nature itself to rise up against us.  If this proves true, then after witnessing first-hand the devastation of Deleyn’s Mill, I shall offer these ‘Witches’ what aid a soldier is able.

59. Short-shrift Imps

It is a simple thing to have empathy for a beast that attacks you, because they do so out of instinct.  But these small wicked creatures possess enough intelligence to cast a spell or two, and are well aware of the devastation that they are causing.  The only compassion they shall receive today, is that their deaths shall come as short and swift as my sword arm is capable.
